Erin K. Orr

Puppetry

Erin Orr creates puppet shows as an experiment in visual storytelling, frequently in collaboration with living composers such as Rima Fand, Sxip Shirey and Baby Dee. Erin’s evening-length puppet theater works range from a wordless dark fairytale for adults, to a circus for all ages about the drama of honeybees. Her puppetry work has been supported by The Jim Henson Foundation, LMCC, Abrons Art Center, and many others. Alongside her own work, Erin has collaborated and performed with artists such as Basil Twist and Paula Vogel, among many others.

Erin has been a teaching artist in NYC public schools for over 20 years. She specializes in designing and teaching early childhood puppetry and storytelling curriculum,  using the medium as a tool to promote literacy and expression. She began working for the organization full-time in 2001, first as a teaching artist, and eventually as ArtsConnection’s Artist Mentor and Curriculum Specialist.
