WE ARE DELIGHTED TO SHARE THAT WE HAVE BEEN SELECTED AS AN ORGANIZATION IN RESIDENCE ON GOVERNORS ISLAND THIS YEAR.
Presented through Governors Island Arts, the seasonal Organizations in Residence initiative is an annual program that selects nonprofits from across the city to present public programs in an historic home on the Island from May through October.
Governors Island is a quick ferry ride from Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. Since opening to the public in 2005, it has become a beloved destination and cultural resource for New York City, boasting nearly one million visitors a year.
Some of our programming will include:
TEENS CURATE TEENS (TCT): a free out-of-school program for NYC high school artists and curators to produce a public art exhibition based on a subject selected by teens. This year’s exhibition will be on body positivity.
ARTIST RESIDENCIES: We will offer 18 month-long residencies (3 per month), featuring artists from our roster of 130 instructors. Artists-in-residence will utilize our house on Governors Island for their artistic practices and hold open studios for the public.
MAP FREE CITY: a free summer program for NYC teens to explore the arts across the city, learn critical writing, and produce media content.
We will be open to the public every weekend from May through October and have special programming during our residency.
We hope to see you at Governors Island. Stay tuned for more details.
