Student Art Program Assistant

ArtsConnection is a not-for-profit organization providing arts education programs including exhibitions, in-school residencies, professional development, research, performances and family events in New York City public schools and to middle and high school students during out-of-school time.  The ArtsConnection Student Art Program Manager has primary responsibility for about 10 student exhibitions each school year installed in corporate spaces in New York City.   The Program Assistant is responsible for working closely with and providing administrative support to the Student Art Program Manager.

 

Specific duties include:

Administrative:

  • Create exhibition databases
  • Photograph art work
  • Outreach for Student Art Program including social media, e-mail, and fairs
  • Communicate with schools, parents, and teen artists (managing invitations, artwork sent, RSVP’s, and award certificates)
  • Prepare wall labels for art work
  • Send and manage surveys to participating students and teachers
  • Work closely with teen interns
  • Attend teen program meetings
  • Support ArtsConnection programs and events when needed (i.e. Artist Institute, Professional Development events, Gala, other Teen Program Events)

Exhibitions:

  • Receive and organize art submissions
  • Prepare for and assist at the art selection process
  • Take artwork to framer
  • Prepare materials for student artists at receptions
  • Help coordinate opening receptions

Art handling:

  • Work on exhibition installation and de-installations
  • Pack, mail and/or deliver artwork to schools after de-install of exhibitions

 

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree; visual art and exhibition experience; youth development experience; excellent personal and communication skills; ability to work well under exhibition deadlines; flexibility; good problem solving skill; detail-oriented; organized curiosity about teen artists; computer proficiency essential; bilingual Spanish a plus.  Applicants are subject to security clearance by NYC Department of Education.

 

Salary:  $15 an hour; 21 hours per week; pro-rated vacation and sick days; no other benefits.

Duration:  September through June, 2015
