Announces a New Grant, and Celebrates our Teens!
Please Meet Caroline Kim
We are delighted to welcome ArtsConnection’s newest board member, Caroline Kim.
Kim currently serves as Director of Investor Relations for Himalaya Capital, a Seattle-based $18 billion alternative investment firm focused on global opportunistic value investing. With 19 years of experience in financial markets, investments and advisory, she is responsible for strategic business development and management of the firm’s institutional investor relationships. Prior to joining Himalaya Capital, Caroline set-up and headed the Hong Kong office and Asia Pacific investor relations and business development for Paulson & Co. and helped launch global fundraising and investor relations for the AI-driven multi-manager platform Atom Investors. Prior to business school, Caroline had a career in investment banking covering Asia Pacific technology, media and telecommunications companies with JPMorgan and global M&A advisory with Credit Suisse First Boston. She received her MBA from The Wharton School and BBA from Baruch College. She is a CFA, CAIA and CIPM charter holder. ArtsConnection is grateful that Kim has joined our governance and will share her expertise in support of ensuring arts access for our city’s children and teens.
Culture Connected wins a National Endowment
for the Arts Grant
ArtsConnection is proud to announce that we have received an Arts Project Grant from the NEA. Through our citywide community engagement program, Culture Connected, this grant will provide subsidized tickets to small performing arts venues recognized for presenting culturally sustaining work focused on our target audience—traditionally underrepresented groups. Tickets will be marketed and distributed free of cost to families through our many public-school partners, and to SNAP recipients through our dedicated Culture Connected website. This funding will increase opportunities for families to access the arts of their city and support Off and Off-Off-Broadway venues predominantly located in the outer boroughs.  The project builds on ArtsConnection’s 20+ years of bringing over 100,000 new audience members to cultural venues through its High 5 Tickets program, and expands Culture Connected’s reach, adding performance venues to museums as our valued partners in this important work to make the arts accessible to all families.
Celebrating Our Teens’ Accomplishments
May 7 marked a long-standing and joyous tradition at ArtsConnection: the opening reception for our Teens Curate Teens (TCT) exhibition and the program finale for Teen Reviewers and Critics (TRaC). This year the ELM Foundation in Williamsburg hosted the exhibition, It’s OK to be Broken: A Conversation about Teen Mental Health, featuring art by 33 NYC public school teens and curated by 6 of their peers, who studied the art of curating in their semester-long TRaC course.  The reception also celebrated participants from all of our TRaC courses—music, film, dance/theater, visual arts, media and multi-arts—who presented their final projects, reflecting their multi-media critical responses to attending NYC performances and exhibitions.  Congratulations to all of our arts-focused teens!
