The Season of Giving Continues

This week, as the giving season continues, ArtsConnection features our partnership with Theresa Mshar, principal of JHS 185 in Flushing Queens. Through participating in ArtsConnection’s Digital DELLTA (Developing English Language Literacy Through the Arts) program, Theresa’s students are immersed in the demanding practices of the artistic discipline of dance, while learning the language skills necessary to communicate and perform. Instruction addresses the specific needs of English learners—the need to master the language, to feel culturally engaged, to feel capable. Working in small groups, the students collaboratively create thematic choreography and e-portfolios of their creative process on tablets. Through blending experiential learning in dance with technology, Digital DELLTA helps students master critical thinking and analytical skills, while increasing language, literacy and the cultural competencies they need to be academically and socially prepared for high school.
