Ronald Sopyla

Theater/Puppetry Solo performer (puppetry and storytelling)

Ronald Sopyla uses a combination of storytelling and shadow puppetry to bring to life folktales, fairytales and myths from cultures around the world. Ronald develops his stories and designs his puppets based on research into the storytelling and folk art traditions of the cultures from which the stories are drawn. Ronald brings a rich background to his work. He has a degree in Theater Arts, trained at the American Conservatory Theater, and has a Master’s degree in Education.

As a storyteller and puppeteer, Ron has worked extensively in schools, libraries, museums, and festivals throughout the NYC and NJ area, and has acted in regional and off-Broadway theater and in National Tours. Recently retired after 14 years as a NYS certified theater teacher with the NYC Dept. of Education, he begins work as a mentor teacher with the NYC DOE Arthur Miller Fellowship program this Fall. Ronald brings over 35 years of experience to his work as a performer and Teaching Artist.
