Kudos to ArtsConnection’s Teaching Artists Jojo Gonzalez and Kim Grier-Martinez who on September 13 were honored by City Lore as “local heroes who contribute to the culture of the city and its neighborhoods” with the People’s Hall of Fame award.
Rachel Watts, who introduced Jojo and Kim at the awards ceremony, said:
“When I first saw Kim teaching it was in the ArtsConnection Young Talent program at PS38 in Brooklyn. Her poise, grace, and kind consistency with the students was mesmerizing to watch. Even after many years of teaching, she is constantly reflecting on her practice and open to ongoing revision and refining, which is a rare and exceptional quality.”
“Jojo’s capacity to see, honor and highlight the creativity that young people bring to an artistic process is the one of the best I have ever seen in a teaching artist. He has the capacity to pull from his own artistry to inform his teaching, making real the perspective that teaching is a performing art.”
We are grateful to City Lore for this recognition of teaching artists on our roster and we invite you to learn about these remarkable people: Kim Grier-Martinez and Jojo Gonzalez.
